Just decided to paint bedroom all white.

I have white bedding, the carpet is a light tea stain kind of colour (a method to my madness there!) furniture is Danish modern chunky pale yellowy wood beech? Light fitting is a huge really modern chandelier. Modern house. White wood blind at window but need curtain with blackout too as new baby on the way. Don't want floor length as last lot got mildew at the bottom thinking roman blind. Can't for the life of me think what kind of material as in colour, stripe, plain or something else. I've got a toddler and heavily pregnant and can't seem to think for myself!

I'm not one of these stylish people, but we're doing our bedroom out now.

The walls are all white, we will have a chocolate colour roman blackout blind and a similar carpet colour to you.

I've decided to mix in a bit of light coloured gold with the duvet/bedding and a crackle glaze light fitting. Time will tell if it'll look ok or not.

Well if it were me I'd go for a really vivid bright colour (fuschia? apple green?) to set off the contrast, but then I'm not an all-white kinda gal. Can you get blackout lined white curtains from JL or somewhere if you want to stick with white/light?

I want plantation shutters.. you could paint them but I think they look great white in a white room.

Rhubarbgarden · 09/08/2012 13:14

I agree with Ecuse, a strong colour will look good against the white. We have a white painted bedroom with beige carpet and heavy turquoise velvet floor length curtains.

Whereas...I think a strong colour with white doesn't work as the contrast is too much. With the furnishings you describe I'd go for something with a pattern on a neutral background, such as

this

or this, which is considerably cheaper!

I have had a pure white bedroom with stone colored carpet and I had raw linen curtains They looked beautiful

noddyholder · 09/08/2012 15:14

lovely fabrics here I don't like bold with white either prefer something more washed out looking

I have an all white bedroom with contemporary furniture and large windows. I think that curtains are a bit old fashioned in a modern setting so would always go for a blind. We have Romans in an off white linen. At the moment I wish they were lined with blackout lining as the Sunnis waking me early in the morning.

Thanks all, I love the plantation shutter idea and had already looked into it but with my white wood blinds which I have through the whole house it might be too much plus they seem quite pricey from what I can tell.

noddy, notmostpeopleoh yes, I think it is a natural off white raw looking linen that I'm after, I would like something thick and textured for a bit of contrast...I think I know what I want now - thanks so much!

We have just ordered plantation shutters for the front of our house (living room and bedroom). Previous owners had Venetian blinds and heavy curtains with frilly edging. Not my style. Walls will be off white and pale grey, grey carpet and white and upholstered furniture. Probably dull to some people but i love it. Each to their own

suntodayplease · 10/08/2012 18:04

Oh and in terms of shutter price - £200 per m sq, less than I thought. Shop around
