I wanted to change my window hinges as we wanted to get the hinges that only allowed the window to open a certain way for all the upstairs windows (safety for the kids) and some needed replacing anyway as they weren't fitting right. We discussed our requirements with the guy who came for the quote - he definitely knew that we wanted the safety ones. Got the quote, accepted quote. They came one time to fit a broken window but didn't have the hinges - again discussed that I wanted them for Summer for safety feature. Hinges in stock and were fitted. Then realised they've just fitted normal hinges with no locking thingy.
The quote had said 'trade friction stay top hung' - I assumed it meant what I had asked for and so accepted the quote. Obviously I'm not a window fitter so didn't know that wasn't the right thing. Company are now saying that the proper hinges we asked for are significantly more expensive (almost double the quote) - but will come and re-fit the new ones if we pay the extra (whoo hoo?!).
Do we have any recourse? Don't seem right somehow seeing as if we'd have the quote for the proper stuff we would certainly have got additional quotes and shopped around?
Only other thing is we owe them £100 - payment upon finishing job - which they haven't chased us up for. Which makes me think that they know they're trying to pull a fast one.
Sorry for the long story....
