..with tipping etc?

We have having a deck installed. One boss & two guys doing it. Do I offer a tip? If so, how much and to whom?

Thanks?

Oh Yes, - nothing's cheap these days is it - but it would take DH months to find the time, but if I pay someone we get it by the weekend Grin

It is not usual to tip any business owner/boss/manager, nor the employee of a large company (dishwasher repair man etc).

It is usual to provide tea/coffee/biscuits to workmen in the house. If they are particularly helpful you can offer chocolate biscuits. Give them one mug each and make it clear that you will wash up and refill the mugs if they bring them back to you (but not if they don't)

If the workmen do something extra on top of what they have been paid for, for example lifting furniture around, you can give them a few pounds if you want, but it is not considered neccessary. Cleaning up after themselves is not considered an extra.

Agree with others - I wouldn't tip, you pay them to do the job. End of.

Thank You!

I don't need to worry about the mugs, they're far too good at returning them and expecting them to be refilled - but at least they work through the "coffee breaks". They qouted 3 days for the work and if they hadn't had a minor ordering mistake, I think they would be finished in 2, so can't complain.

I haven't been offereing biscuits as we don't have any in the house, might get DH to pick up a packet on way home for tomorrow Grin

I wouldn't dream of tipping but always leave out biscuits although we often seem to get terribly refined tradesmen who bring their own green tea and don't touch our biscuity offerings.
