What paint will stand up to sticky hands?

Moved into our house about 18 months ago, hall and landing are painted in a kind of mushroom colour. In their way, my two have managed to get sticky hand prints everywhere that's at their level - along the hall and all the way up the stairs. I've tried washing down the walls, but it doesn't seem to make much difference so I'm going to repaint. Is there specific paint to look for, or to avoid?

Thanks.

vinyl silk emulsion is not bad. Very expensive fashionable brands of paint are not noted for their wear qualities.

Matt paint gets dirty easily and is harder to clean. Non-vinyl will come off if you scrub it.

The more expensive kitchen and bathroom paints are supposed to be more washable but are harder to apply well, and opinions differ about their value.

with a bit of practice you'll find you can put dustsheets down and repaint a room in half a day, if it is just dirty and doesn't need filler or a strong colour change.

wash the old paint down with sugar soap in preparation for repainting and you might find it cleans up enough not to need painting.

Be aware that if you might want to go back to a matt emulsion one day, it does not stick well to silk unless you clean and lightly wipe it with fine sandpaper to take the shine off.

You could also look at Little Greene Intelligent Matt. I've used it at home and for clients. My kids are past the sticky fingers stage but clients have reported that strawberry jam etc are easily removed...

Still looks fine here after 18 months on our stairwell/family room/kitchen.

We have silk - my girls still leave finger prints but now it's make up! It wipes off nicely.

Thank you all for the pointers - on to the colour charts!
