Daventry / Rugby...??

We're loosely thinking of moving from Cardiff to Daventry or surrounding areas (possibly as far north as Rugby).

Do you live near there? Is it nice? Are there any dodgy areas to avoid?

We're trying to be near-ish to Solihull and also a reasonable commute to London for DH's occasional business meetings (once a month or less). Any other nice towns we should consider?

There is a midlands thread on the first page of property/DIY which may give you an idea of the market in the area.

I'd probably look at Market Harborough and the surrounding villages.

Nicer than Daventry (by a distance) and commutable to both London and Solihull (have done both).

The villages towards Lutterworth are also worth a look (Kimcote, Husbands Bosworth etc) are also really well connected road wise.

Daventry really isn't so great. Some of the villages between there and nhampton are nice though. I'd go more Oxford way if you want urban. But If you're wedded to urban AND Nhants, then by my crystal ball, wellingborough has the best investment potential.

Thanks everyone. Oxford is a bit pricey for us I think so heading north to try and get a bit more for our money.

We're torn between urban and rural so looking at anything. Will definitely be booking a trip to the area to have a drive around. Will steer away from Daventry and start another Rightmove search!!! I think I'm addicted to Rightmove

I grew up in daventry. It's a small
Market town which has grown a lot in terms of housing estates etc in the past ten years. It was quite a nice place to grow up. It's a bit isolated from everywhere else nearest places are rugby and Northampton. There is no station and so if your DH wants easy access to London then rugby is better (although bigger and IMO rougher than daventry). I wouldn't rule out daventry. Market harborough is far more up market though. The villages in Northamptonshire are very beautiful.

Daventry isn't that bad. I live there and grew up here.
Areas to avoid are Southbrook, Headlands and The Grange. Most other places are fine.
