I painted a wardrobe (pine ikea) with gloss paint on Saturday- is still tacky to the touch and looks horrible with spots showing through - just looks terrible. Any ideas about how I can fix this? once it finally does dry can I paint over it? usually use eggshell and have not had any problems. won't use gloss again! (although for this project the shiny finish was what I wanted)- any suggestions gratefully received.

Did you put a base coat on before the gloss? If not, that might be the problem. Having said that, we recently painted our bath panel with gloss paint and that did need a 2nd coat so it might be worth just waiting for it to dry and whacking on a 2nd coat to see how it looks. Our bath panel has even coverage all over after its 2nd coat.

I painted a mirror frame yesterday (not gloss though) and the first coat looked rubbish.

Third coat went on last night and it looks lovely now.

I think with wood, you need to sand it first, some have a finish on them that doesn't take paint very well, without a base coat and/or sanding first.
