Weybridge Traffic

Hi,

We are looking at various different properties in Weybridge and was wondering if someone could help us understand the traffic situation in the morning's.

How long would it take to drive from the top of oatland chase to Walton station somewhere between 8, 8:30.

My husband works in the city and needs to travel on the train into waterloo but it looks like the walk from the top of oatland chase is a little too far?

Any help much appreciated.

Also, are there parking spaces at that time?

I used to do multi drop driving around that area, and at school times it is incredibly busy. I'd advise him to get a bike and lock it up at the station.

househuntingforever · 29/07/2012 21:36

Thanks Kozy,

Not sure he is the biking kind of guy, plus its tricky with his suits in the morning.

Just out of interest though, how long do you think it would take in the morning?

Surely it can't be more than a 20 minute fast walk? And in the car, it will be busy but not THAT busy? I wouldn't let that put him off buying? Surely can always leave a bit earlier if required?

househuntingforever · 29/07/2012 22:05

Thanks nowwearefour,

Hes just paranoid, but i can see his point. Do you live in Weybridge / near oatlands chase?

Sorry if inappropriate... We are looking at properties in that area :)

How far is it in miles? I don't live locally enough to tell you the answer but Weybridge is generally a nightmare for traffic...

househuntingforever · 29/07/2012 22:18

its just shy of a mile. I know the walk would be around 20 mins but just wondering if the traffic is totally bad that he can rule out driving.

I think it would take about 5 minutes to drive from Oatlands to Walton Station.

RandomMess · 29/07/2012 22:22

Honestly I'd go and look at that time in the morning and do the journey, although during the school hols it is much much much quieter!

househuntingforever · 29/07/2012 22:23

Thanks Claire, assuming that's at 8ish, if so this really helps.

Hi RandomMess,

He said he was going to do the journey and check, but once I mentioned school holidays and Olympics it became a non event.

How much is a parking season ticket at Walton, I would think a lot? Also are there any season ticket spaces currently available separate from general parking?

Is there any way you can physically test out the drive beforehand (night in a nearby b&b for DH?) if this is an important factor?

TheDoctrineOfEnnis · 29/07/2012 22:26

X-post . A test run could still give some idea though, both wrt timing and car park spaces.

RandomMess · 29/07/2012 22:26

There are fast trains from Weybridge so op would want to park and go from there. I dread to think how much the parking is on top of the rail season ticket...

RandomMess · 29/07/2012 22:27

From the 2nd August onwards you would be fine from an olympic point of view out here Grin

Still worth doing because if it takes 10 mins in August it's going to be worse during term time and not worth driving!

househuntingforever · 29/07/2012 22:28

Hi Doc,

Yeah, he should have done it pre school holidays, but agree still gives some insight.

I actually drove to Walton Station yesterday. :)

From the Queens Road end of Oatlands Chase, it is a doddle. There really isn't anything to hold up traffic. I wouldn't really advise the Oatlands Drive approach because that takes you through WoT town centre, and is about twice the distance.

As for parking, although I know nothing about the specifics of Walton Station, I would imagine that 8.30 is too late to guarantee a space. As well as a car park, there is pay & display all the way along Station Road.

Belshels · 29/07/2012 22:33

Agh we're moving to weybridge in August and 2 kids have been offered places at different schools.. Hope the traffic doesn't make life too hard!!

househuntingforever · 29/07/2012 22:38

Re pricing for those that are interested, it's in the region of 3200 for annual ticket and parking. Ouch.

Hi Belshels,

We could be joining you end of aug, fingers crossed:-). Although hubby is still para so he's going to have to try it and see.

Hi HHF, good luck hope you manage to decide on the area. We like it, have lived there before and are going back again. My husband will be commuting to Waterloo from weybridge but will have to cycle as it's also slightly too far and expensive to park, but he'll be leaving at 6am so don't think traffic would be an issue!
