New boiler/Russian gas supply?

Hi,

Our boiler needs a fairly major service and I have been advised by the plumber that it only has about 2 years left in it anyway. We were wondering if we shouldn't just install a new one (Combi). He said that due to the gas supply changing to Russian gas soon, most boilers will need to have their valves or something changed anyway, which will be very expensive, and advised us to wait with installing a new one.

Any lovely MN'ters out there who knows anything about this?

I may be wrong but that sounds very strange to me. There's nothing on the net about it, you'd think there would be if it was an imenant problem that was going to affect so many people.
Even if we did change to a russian supply, wouldn't it be sorted at the gas plant. I think some gas supplies in the uk come from Russia already as well as other places.

I will watch this with interest as we are fitting a new boiler in the next few weeks.

I work for National Grid. We already import gas from all over the world. The pressure you receive it at is not changing and will not change so valves do not need to be made bigger/smaller.

Tell him to take a hike, he's a rip off merchant.

Oh, if you get the chance, ask him if he's in the gas safe register cos he sounds like a cowboy to me.
