How do you plan the internal look& decoration of an extension?

Hope my question makes sense?!
We are finally just about to put our plans in for an extension to our kitchen & dining room for our mid terrace 1930s home & I'm just starting to think about what we want inside, how we'll lay out the rooms etc. I feel I need to have a bit of a plan otherwise DH will get a bit fed up with it all when the time comes & just end up bodging stuff together.

I know about pintrest for homey ideas but is there anywhere else or an application that actually lets me plan these things out & add in kitchen units & interiors?

Thank you :)

Try the Houzz app or www.houzz.com. It's free and I have found it brilliant for inspiration/ideas.

In terms of layout though it's hard to beat just getting squared paper (that architects / designers use) and laying it out to scale. I found it quickly made DH realize that we couldn't fit a shower and bath in our teeny weeny bathroom !

Collect lots and lots of pictures from websites, magazines etc and assemble them in a mood board- a file with clear pockets is good for keeping information together. Keep lists of places to source lights etc keep referring to it and you'll find which ideas stay 'sitting comfortably' with you and which ideas you get fed up of or think won't actually work in your space.

It can be quite frustrating as many pictures / showrooms have great features that you don't have / can't afford. So try to focus on the things you CAN choose eg. maybe don't automatically choose white for the external doors - maybe a strong colour there could be a key design feature. Usually it's one thing that starts of the feel of the room (eg a light, or a particular wall finish) and then the other things fall into line.
