Carpet/ Laminate floor fitters - do they usually fit skirting boards too?

My plasterer has given me the number of a carpet/ laminate floor fitter. He is self employed but does contract work for the carpet shops like Carpetright.

I would like to call him (but it's the weekend so I'll wait 'til Monday), but do floor fitters generally fit skirting boards too?

Be grateful if anyone knows.

I don't think so. Our carpenter has put on the skirting boards and the fitter will just tuck the carpet underneath them.

Thanks Duchess, I'll ring him on monday and ask.

I've got a carpenter to fit my kitchen, but think he is chock a block with bookings so not sure he'd be able to fit a floor for me for a while.

Perhaps I could get the laminate guy to fit the floor and then ask a carpenter to do the skirting.

No - carpet fitters won't fit skirtings. builder / carpenter usually does that.

Skirtings are usually fitted first and then carpet butted up to it with gripper rods just inside the skirting. Laminate again can be fitted first and you skirting can then be fitted over the top, but you would have to ask the fitter - if he is a carpenter he may do it but general fitters wouldn't usually. If skirting is already fitted the laminate can be fitted up to it but you may need an edging strip to hide any rough edges (these can arise when the boards are cut to fit).

Have you got a general handyman/property services firm near you.

Ours does a bit of everything, and laid our laminate floor and moved the skirting boards whilst he was at it.
He's also replaced a sink, done some tiling, sorted out our roof on the extension, laid the floor in the bathroom etc.

I'm about to call him today because I've discovered a leak under the kitchen sink and he will come and sort it out for me within the next couple of days.
