Removal company costs

Can anyone tell me a rough ballpark figure for a proper removals company to come and do your housemove?

If it helps, it's a 4-bed, 3 reception room house, and we're only moving 4 miles across the same town.

I know that it probably varies by region and I know that to get a proper idea I have to approach companies for quotes. But given that it's Sunday night and they're all closed, anyone want to share what they paid?

Also, any tips on choosing a removal company?

You need to get some quotes, as they are all different. The fees are usually around £45 an hour, and it depends on how much stuff you have and whether it's all packed. Call a dozen and get some quotes and references. I know a great one in Nottingham.

We have a 4-bedroom, 2-reception house in the south-east and have been quoted £500 and £590 + VAT by two different companies, moving about 4 miles away too. They both offer a packing service as well. Whereabouts in the country are you, OP? Someone local to you might have a recommendation.

Thanks for all your replies - very reassuring as the figures I'd managed to get online (without speaking to anyone) were more around £1400 .

We're in Wiltshire, so usually we're not more expensive than the SE.

We had a 3bed, 2 reception room house but also with a bursting at the seams cellar and paid £700 for packing and moving. We used a local (midlands) company and they were brilliant. We did get quotes from national companies but they were more expensive and I wasn't as impressed with them.
