Do you still need to fit fire doors with auto-closers for a loft extension?

Anyone had a very recent loft extension and can answer this for me? When we started out looking at converting the loft the building regs included fire doors to all doors onto the 'escape route' (i.e. all of our downstairs and bedroom doors) which had to be fitted with closers.
We had to replace our ground floor doors for another reason so we bought fire doors and closers and the builder (who has been meant to come and fit them for months but has been delayed) is now meant to be fitting them this week. However we have been talking to loft extension firms in the meantime and I'm sure one of them said that you don't need closers anymore.
Would really prefer not having closers but can't ring building control until tomorrow morning and the door fitters are turning up at 8!
Any advice?

Hallo
We completed the work on our house in 2009 and didn't fit closers. We have a wood burner on the ground and second floors and our bedroom is now in what was the attic.. We have fire doors on every room in the central column of the house and on the rooms that have the fires in.
We were signed off building regs no problem

No, just fire doors (solid doors).

Thanks!
Have discussed with dh and we are going to tell builder to just fit the fire doors without closers. Dh thinks even if we really need the closers that they can be fitted at a later date.

I read recently that the regs had changed because people tended to prop autoclosing doors open, which is worse than not having them at all. Can't remember where though!

Same here, we needed fire doors in certain places when we did big renovation completed in Jan, but none have closers.

Fire doors, no auto closers here.

They are expensive and flipping heavy, but worth the peac of mind.

Correct the doors do not need closers.

Confirmation here

Thanks for the link. Hurrah for no closers - they are really not practical!
