What the hell is this bit actually called?

On a mixer tap, right where the water comes out there is a black circular bit of plastic, with triangular sections, which fell apart and out of our tap. Now the water splashes all over the place instead of running smoothly, and it really annoys me!
I reported it to the landlord, who suggested that I fix it myself, and he will reimburse me, but I don't know what it is called, so don't know where to find it, or whether it is replaceable.

Googling "plastic bit on the end of a tap" doesn't really get me anywhere. Grin

Is it an aerator?

MrsHelsBels74 · 11/07/2012 19:54

My husband has suggested nozzle? But I must confess he did look blankly at me at first!

ClaireBunting · 11/07/2012 19:54

Is it the aerator?

SardineQueen · 11/07/2012 20:03

Aha
It's a plastic "thingy"
Mine fell out too
I lived with it Blush

SardineQueen · 11/07/2012 20:09

Hmm googling doesn't work does it.
If I were you I'd go into B&Q or similar and have a look / ask them.

Try these guys... www.tap-spares.com/

One of mine fell out too and tbh I haven't noticed any difference in the flow of water.

It's a bit manky but you're welcome to it OP if I can find it it'll fit your tap.

pepperrabbit · 11/07/2012 20:13

We identified a part of our dishwasher by googling and selecting "images" until we found the bit that looked like the broken bit.
If that helps even vaguely!

Fiveflowers · 11/07/2012 20:22

This might do

TitWillow · 11/07/2012 22:07

Of course! Its a Flow Straightener Mixer Tap Spout Insert! How silly of me not to know! Grin

Thanks all, and particularly Fiveflowers for finding me one.

Thanks for the offers, but since the landlords paying I'll buy it new.

Thanks

OOI, some water companies will send you one free, with a free plastic spanner to fit it, as part of their water-saving scheme. The one they send mixes more air with the water.

they also have free water-saving shower heads and things.

TitWillow · 12/07/2012 09:44

Not sure that we have a water company as such - in Scotland!
