cleaning the filter on an indesit washing machine

I have got the 'kickboard' off and can see the filter. I am meant to turn it anti-clockwise to remove it but it won't budge. Any ideas? Is it stuck or do I need to unscrew more bits? Is it just a question of brute force? It did give a teeny bit but it isn't budging anymore. Thank you.

Mine took brute force to twist it off..

Thanks! I will try and locate a friendly brute. Did you do it yourself? I am not that weak but I just can't do it. I tried syringing vegetable oil into it. Did that do the trick once you got it out? Is yours an Indesit?

sometimes they break trying to get them off. You can try edging it a bit shut then a bit open and so on. Rubber gloves may help you grip. If it is like a jar lid, try a plastic jar opener.

If you do manage to get it off, clean it very thoroughly and apply silicone grease (plumbers use it but you may find it in a DIY or hardware store) to the rubber seal and the screw thread. I greatly doubt that oil will get in; it is designed to be watertight. And vegetable oil goes sticky and hardens into varenish eventually.

I used a mole wrench last time and broke the finger-grips, but a new filter was only about a fiver from Bosch.

I know this is an old thread but I just wanted to say thank you because this has saved me buying a new washer dryer. Some how a whole, washable breast pad had managed to get stuck in the filter! Blush

We didn't realise at first that to remove the filter you have to turn it all the way round. It was only going a quarter turn at first until dh took a pair of pliers to it after I read it on here.

And now it's a really old thread... But you have all saved me a new washing machine in the January sales too! Thanks
