Does offering cash to a seller help to get a house?

We put an offer in on a house we love. We can't afford the asking price so we did offer lower but this was rejected. We live in Scotland and so it's "offers over" although the estate agent said this is not really happening at the moment.

Would offering the seller cash be an incentive? What benefits would there be if any? The house has been on the market for a few years!

TIA

Cash is liked by buyers because it means the sale can go through quickly and without the hassle of sorting out the mortgage. If the sellers are after a particular property and want to move quickly then it is definitely an incentive to have someone who has the cash to buy. If they aren't in any rush (and it sounds like they aren't) then I can't see any advantage.

OK. Thank you for that :)
