Washing machine/tumble dryer in cupboard?

Reading this thread has left me questionning whether I want/need my proposed futility/laundry room downstairs off the kitchen diner
I'm considering creating a room next to the proposed en suite but think that could make both rooms feel cramped.
One option is to stack the washing machine and tumble dryer in the cupboard which used to house the hot water cylinder until we replaced the boiler - it doesn't give me anywhere to hide washing mountain, but is it a good way to use the space?

how good is the ventilation in the cupboard? i would worry about overheating and fires.

We moved last year and inherited a washer/dryer system in an upstairs cupboard which may have once had a hot water tank in it. It does mean I don't run the washing machine in the evening lest it wake the DCs, but then ours is old and noisy. If you can bring yourself to ditch the dryer, you'd then have room to hide washing!
