Has anyone got a 'proper' garden office/extra room?

By 'proper' I mean insulated, double-glazed, with power and a roof that doesn't leak easily. Would like to construct one at the end of our garden, so looking for recommendations and tips. We currently have a large timber summer house with lots of windows which is great for dumping camping gear the odd g&t but certainly not usable as an extra room.

Hi yes we have one. It's about 18 x 14 foot I think and is split into two rooms one of which we use as an office and the other as a spare room. We have electric, heating and double glazine and a loo and hand basin. It's great and we use it a lot. Let me know if you have any specific questions.

Ah, that's interesting Mins. Can you remember the name of the company who supplied it? Did they supply the base as well, and organise the power/plumbing? Is it warm enough to use right through the winter? How much maintenace do you have to do? Sorry for all the questions!

We have a garden office, hubby built it himself this year as he's in the building trade. We looked at kit offices but the insulation wasn't substantial enough so he decided to build it from scratch using the materials he knows are better. I think the garden office is going to be warmer than our house this winter :)

Hi yes ours was supplied by a company called Homestead (you should find them online easily enough)- they were great to work with. They did the concrete base and all the electrics and plumbing - basically everything. Yes it definitely is warm enough to use in the winter (warmer than our house too Sophia!) We will have had for 3 years in October and have not had to do any maintenance as yet! We went for a traditional looking wood room - it's great and I can't recommend Homestead highly enough! Quite happy to answer more Qs if you have them.

We were planning to go for extra thick wall insulation so it could be used all year round. We then got a separate quote for electrics. Total cost was around 6K.

We didn't go ahead because we decided to move instead in the end.

We have a fab garden office. We bought a 10 x 16 summerhouse and insulated/plastered it ourselves.

No plumbing, just electrics. DH keeps threatening to build an en-suite compost toilet

It is my little haven and I love it.
