Survey - small risk of asbestos

We had a survey done and it said there is a small risk of asbestos in the ceiling finishes. The house dates from the late 80s so would have thought it wouldn't have any but need to think about whether to have an asbestos check on the ceiling or leave it as it could be one of those things the surveyor puts in every survey to cover themselves!

I'd go back to your surveyor first and ask if he can give you more detail on this, or assess the likelihood of there being asbestos or not. Ask him if he would recommend having an asbestos survey carried out, or whether he wouldn't consider it necessary. Alternatively, assuming there are very similar houses nearby, knock on some of their doors and ask if they know anything about this regarding their own ceilings!

Hi. This will probably become more widespread. Are the ceilings artex or textured because that is a known source. Some types of asbestos were still in use until the 80s/90s unbelievably! I agree with the above about asking the surveyor for more info and consider commissioning a specialist asbestos survey. See more info here under the heading members of the public:
