biomass boilers

We have solid fuel heating at the moment. Its an old stove and we have considered replacing but quoted £6k for this. It is efficient but chainsawing and splitting wood time consuming and hard work.

We had a chap here today to look at possibilty of solar panels and he reckoned not enough roof space but mentioned this new government incentive for people to convert heating to biomass system.

Apparently costs £17k inc vat supplied and installed. This includes 350 litre water tank and panels on the roof for hot water when boiler not running. The government apparently will lend you £10k interest free to be paid back over 8 years. On top of this apparently the government will pay us a lump some of £2,300 each year for 20 years.

Costs for running system much cheaper than oil which is our other available option. Sales guy reckoned it was a no brainer.

Does anyone know more about this? And is it a no brainer?
