Built-in wardrobes..... recommendations and how much should I expect to spend??

I need a double wardrobe to be built-in in my spare room, ideally mirror finish. Nothing too flash - something fairly basic. Do I use a Hammonds or Sharp type company or go for a joiner?

Also, anyone got any idea what I should expect to pay (ballpark figure obviously)??

I'm in Hampshire / Surrey.

Any advice great fully received. :)

Watching this with interest as I just posted a similar topic so keen to see what other MNers have to say!

I am in a similar position. We had Sharps in last week and the designer had some good ideas and wasn't overly pushy. He did however do the sales thing where they start at a ridiculous price (think it was £6000 for a 3 door wardrobe built into an alcove about 150cm width) then give you this discount and that one and 'if you can get your order in by tomorrow you can have another £500 off'. Think it finally ended up about £1400 which was still a bit more than I had hoped.

I have the carpenter who did our kitchen last year coming to have a look tomorrow - he did a great job on the kitchen so we know we can trust his work. Will be interesting to see how much he will charge for roughly the same. Will let you know tomorrow!

That's interesting jaspercat - how can they go from £6000 to £1400?? I'm reluctant to get them in for that reason as I know some of them can be very pushy. I too am thinking about getting the carpenter who did our kitchen so will be interested to know what yours quotes!

I got a double in the children's bedroom and a triple in mine for I think it was a couple of thousand. Local chap.

I think you can get a better deal that way rather than the big companies, who send someone out and do that whole fake haggle/special offer / going to phone my manager crap.

Thanks for all the responses! Jaspercat - I'll be interested to see what your carpenter comes up with. Can't believe Sharps came down so much - good negotiation skills!

Mins - sorry, I did do a search first but somehow didn't see your thread. I am not overly computer literate..... :)

Just noticed the shocking "great fully" typo - damn autocorrect!!! Blush

Not to worry westwinger - my post was a little different in that I've got specific queries due to space restrictions but still interested in your responses. Smile
