What colour walls to compliment a royal blue sofa?

While I wait for our home to settle, I can dream of decorating the rooms....

A few years back we bought a very expensive sofa - in royal blue. It was a bit of a statement piece next to our white walls of our rented flat. Now it is time for a change. Maybe something with a greyish hue on the walls?......... I want the room to look a little sophisiticated and for the royal blue sofa to stick out less like a sore thumb. Thanks!

I think royal blue would go with most things to be honest. White (as you've had), grey (as you've suggested), different tones of blue, or we've got more of a dark creamy colour (called 'Toffee Cream') which looks nice
Isn't it going to depend on things like the size of the room, the lighting, the amount of sunshime it gets, how many sticky hands are going to be touching the walls, etc., too ?

Pick out the three most precious things in a room. Usually a painting or other artwork, a family ornament of some kind, a rug.

Base the colour scheme for your room on the colours that appear in these precious pieces.

You can repaint walls and re-cover sofas but your precious things will always look the same, so its these things that should influence your choice of colour.
