Quirky bathroom ideas

dh and i are jus about to buy a new house, it's lovely and the only major work that needs done is replacing the two dated bathrooms

I'm torn between going for the boring beige hotel look (which I do actually quite like) or for something more personal

I was wondering if something like children's character illustrations on tiles on a splashback might work (EH Shepherd type Wind in the Willows or Winnie the Pooh drawings - my boys would like this). Or Madeline Floyd typr bird illustartions, though I've never seen these on tiles.

I don't know quite what I'm after - could anyone point me in the direction of some inspirational quirky/original bathrooms?

thanks

You'll outgrow children's illustrations on tiles waaay too quickly. I'm assuming you don't want to re-do your bathroom in 4 years....

I'd keep the tiles simple and add character in other ways. We have a large silkscreen print of a Japanese Geisha. The tiles are simple porcelain but the alcoves are painted in a plum red which picks out a colour in the print. I designed the sink unit which is wall hanging with dark painted doors with flat metal plates for handles (like you see on oriental chests). We could change the whole look of the room with a different blind, painting and paint colour.

My advice - think of it as decorating a room, rather than a bathroom.

Also we have large dark tiles in the shower which I was worried about when we put them in 7 yrs ago, but I love them as it makes the shower feel quite cocoon like and cosy in the mornings when I'm still not quite awake

thanks betterwhenthesunshines

i think you're right and your bathroom sounds beautiful - and different in a good way, unlike my daft idea!

I think you can have fun in a bathroom though as you're not in it for very long. Decorative fun I mean well the other kind too, but that's a different thread

The illustrations on the Madeline Floyd website I found look lovely - can you get any as prints and start from there?

We have 4dds. Their bathroom is plain white with retro metro tiles and hot pink studded rubber tiles. Might work for the boys. The girls love showing visitors their bathroom floors. I don't, just another bloody bathroom to clean!
