Tall kitchen units - up to the ceiling or not?

I am choosing between the 211cm high and the 233cm high IKEA units for an integrated fridge and a wall oven.

Would you go for the tallest ones possible (more storage even if I'll have to get on a chair to reach it) or do you think they will look too huge?

Thanks

Tallest possible! I have the tall Ikea ones and use the very top shelves for things I don't need to get to very often.I think they look a lot better as well as being more practical.

I'd go to the ceiling (even filling in a gap) as it's less of a dust trap

Absolutely yes! That's what I def want next time. It looks cleaner and means you maximise the space available and get rid of that irritating bit at the top which is impossible to clean.

Great, that's what I thought but I am having a last minute panic (ordering at least part of the kitchen on Friday!) that they will loom over the kitchen.

I pointed out to DH (a little dubious about the high shelves) that we have stuff stacked on ALL our high and wall cupboards currently, so it may as well behind a door.

Might think about the ceiling gap thing too Katymac - you are right.

J, did you decide? are they in? am having similar dilemmas re tall or not!

I had mine built to fit the whole gap so no room above the cupboard in the last house - and will do again when we can afford to redo this kitchen.

How big is your kitchen? If it's big then maximise storage and go to the ceiling. If it isn't (dust trap or not) it'll look far more spacious with a gap at the top.

I had a small kitchen with cupboards to the ceiling and it made it look bigger because there was no horizontal line a foot below the ceiling.

We have put an offer in on a house that we want to replace the kitchen in, if we can afford the one we want, and we will go to the ceiling with the units. Lots more storage space, and not so much breaking my neck trying to clean the top.
