house up for sale but vendors have no idea when they can move

I.wonder if anyone has any ideas about this situation.

We have sold our house and need to find one to buy and want to move ASAP.

We went to view one this morning and it was perfect for us, however! The guy selling it said they want to move to a certain house in the same village. They have agreed a price with that vendor. That vendor, though, has not found somewhere to go. They want a bungalow (again in same village) on a specific street but there are none for sale yet!

So basically, its a waiting game and our vendor has absolutely no idea when they can move. They did ask their vendor if they Woukd take the house off the market, then they would rent so that they could sell theirs but their vendor refused :(

There's no point making an offer is there? :( its the only house we like but we need to get out of our house and buy somewhere soon. I suppose we could agree a price and rent til it all goes through but it may never go through I suppose.

Has anyone got any suggestions or advice?! I feel pissed off that the houses are even on the bloody market if they're not actually in a position to sell them!

If you are interested in the house, put in an offer and see what happens. Make it clear that you would want to be able to move in by, say, the beginning of September (or whatever). Then your vendor can decide whether or not he wants to sell and maybe hassle his vendor, etc, etc. Maybe having a bona fide offer on the table might concentrate a few minds.

I would do as bradbourne says. Make an offer with a completion date in mind. That gives the vendors of your house the choice to accept yours and rent/find another house/whatever, or say no and leave everything hanging around on a very flimsy chain.

I would, if I were you get your house sale through, even if that leaves you having to rent/stay with family while you either get this house sorted or find another.

It will give you a strong buying position, and really the hardest part of house buying/selling done. The market (unless you are somewhere like London) seems only to be falling so you may find that although you will be spending money on rent (which you would be spending on mortgage payments anyway), you can get a little bit more off the house you do buy.

Sounds like they could waste a lot of your time and money. I would either keep looking or make an offer conditional on a completion date and them moving out and renting (although, if they've already said no to this they're obv happy to wait and you aren't so prob best to move on).

Thanks givetheantichristacigerette, I hadn't thought of that. It's something to bear in mind.

We will Def just get on with selling ours and rent somewhere if we can't find the right house to buy at the moment.
