I am on a very tight budget for doing up my 60s house, and now I have pulled the shagpile carpets up I have found some pretty decent floorboards underneath. I have tested a small area and they sand up a treat to a lovely golden colour, which I have finished with a clear varnish as I think the colour is great. But if I do this on a larger scale downstairs, will they look naff and "home-made" in comparison to a proper fitted wooden floor? I am thinking of hallway and kitchen for definite, small playroom (already done) but we also have a bedroom, bathroom, dining room and living room downstairs.
Will they be okay in potentially wet/damp areas eg kitchen and bathroom if they're finished properly with varnish?
Thanks for your help
