Catchment areas in Guildford

Hi everyone, this is my first post on mumsnet, and as you can tell by my username, I don't have any children yet.

My partner and I are looking to buy a house in Guildford, with the view to having a baby within the next couple of years. Can anyone recommend good state schools in Guildford please (both primary and secondary) to help us narrow down our search area?

Any advice would be recommended. Thanks!

George abbot is the most sought after secondary, unless you are Catholic. But you have years until secondary so a lot can change. Most schools are pretty good but some schools suit some people more than others. Eg. I have friends who choose to send their kids to a school I didn't like, and also some people don't like the school I did choose.

Thanks mummytime, that sounds like good advice to bear in mind!

You basically need to look at Merrow or Burpham for George Abbott, though they aren't very convenient for the train stations (unless you drive to Clandon).

gosh you are so sensible!! i was clueless and am now worrying.

i don't know the guildford area but school application time comes up at the end of the year. there will be open days and visits. you will get away with having a nose about and not be rumbled for not having kids. visit primary and secondary.

we are considering a big move and visited 3 primaries recently. it was amazing how the visits changed our thinking on schools and target areas. it was so much better than reading the websites and reports.

good luck

oh yes while we didnt go into the secondary recently we did hang about the gates at the end of the day. no police or bad manners on display like where we are now! phew!

Burpham/Merrow for George Abbot.

Town center for County.

North of the A3 is usually Kings and Christ which don't have very good reputations.
