Ikea Kitchens - please tell me we are doing the right thing (or not!).

Had a kitchen fitter round recently and we told him we wanted an Ikea kitchen. He really slated them, saying they were bad quality and they would only last about 5 years and it would look rubbish/ fall apart.

I know they can be a pain to fit and he did have his own range to sell, so perhaps that is why.

Now on mumsnet, I've mainly read good things about them and the occasional bad comment.

I really like the look of the one we've chosen (Lidingo) and I like all the internal fixtures and extras you can buy.

They are fine, aren't they?!

Our kitchen is 5 years and going strong. You need a good fitter though as it is more fiddly as i think they save money on the fixings so you need 2 people to hang the wall cupboards rather than one. Agree that the appliances are not good so avoid. Otherwise great compared to our previous diy shed kitchen for less money. Get another fitter / carpenter person.
