Buying a house you're renting?

Just that really.

DH & I are renting but love the house. It needs a lot of work but we love the area etc.

Our landlord has mentioned selling to us in passinf in the past but we've never discussed it properly (rented via an agent so we don't see him much).

Is there an easy way to work out the valuation? I don't imagine we could have someone out to value a house we don't own.

Any ideas? Is there etiquette around this?

Have you checked house prices on Zoopla?
I don't see why you cant have someone value the house just because you are renting it.
Can you contact the owner and suggest you getting a couple of valuations from estate agents? That way you're not going behind his back.
I rented a few years ago and had a valuation to buy but then we decided not to stay in that area.
