Playroom and shared bedroom or seperate bedrooms?

I have 3 DC. DS is 8,DD1 is 4 and DD2 has just turned 1. I cant decide which set up to have in our new home ( its a bungalow) We have 4 rooms to fill. Option A. Each child with their own room plus a tv/guest room ( sofabed) Or B. the girls sharing plus a playroom plus a tv/guest room. Please share your thoughts/advice! Our kitchen is a large 'live in' type with a dining table plus family area with TV and we spend most of our time in here. DD1 is still a bit small to play by herself and I find DD2 still likes to play 'in view' of me. Is a playroom just an extra room of mess to tidy?! x

I'd go with a room each too.

I'd go with shared bedroom/playroom,and separate dressing room/clothes storage room,plus guest room.

Will be easy enough to turn into separate bedrooms as they grow,and it solves the problem of clothes being unloaded all over the place.Also you can turn the heating down a little in the clothes storage room.

We have playroom (the girls love it, and it is easy enough to tidy; book troughs and shelves and lego table and basket storage) and shared rooms, also a couple of study spaces. I think more communal space is best, personally, and don't believe children 'need' own bedrooms.

It's not about space as the girls have always shared, and we've had up to two bedrooms going spare.

I have 3 years between my two boys and at 9 and 6 their tastes are different. Ds2 has a dinosaur themed room, Ds1 doesn't have any theme.

I like them having a room each, Ds1 goes to his room to read and chill out, and I shared with my sister when I was growing up and our tastes were completely different meaning we both compromised on how we wanted our room to be.

We have a massive playroom here too, so could your tv/guest room have a wall of storage that you can put all their toys into therefore giving you a playroom? Our playroom has a huge sofabed in it, and Ikea wardrobes that hide toys/32"tv/wii/ironing board etc

I'd go with a room each, they can always play in each others rooms after all

We had shared rooms and a playroom when they were younger, and have just gone to own rooms in the past year. My DDs were 12 and 10 when this happened. (DS has always had his own room, although as part of the change, he now has a bigger room.)

This had worked well, as toys are bigger when they are younger, but as they get older, they need a quiet place for homework, so having a desk in each room has worked well for that.

Anyway, that's how it has worked for us.

I had never thought of this before I saw it in one of those 'bloody hell, I want that house and their perfect lives' article with 3 DDs.

I loved the idea that instead of 3 bedrooms they slept in one room, one room was a playroom and the other a study. It seemed wonderful. And I shared rooms with my sisters and loved it.
When your DCs are older you can shuffle it around again so they get privacy.
I'd go for hte playroom option.

We had the same dilemma - 3 DS's (8, 5 and 18 mnth when we moved). We went with DS1 and 2 sharing (they were anyway in the old house), DS3 with his own room , a playroom and a guest room. Lasted about 6 months until we had to seperate DS1 and 2 because of the aggrevation of trying to get them to sleep at night. Either DS1 would complain that DS2 was breathing noisily or DS2 would complain that DS1 had his reading light on too brightly, or any of a myriad of complaints. We lost the guest room to DS1 but kept the playroom. If we have guest, DS1 gets chucked out. The playroom is brilliant - toys, PS3, sofa DH wants a snooker table but I've said no. If yours will share ok, then I would definitely go with that option.
