what colour carpet?

I have just painted my house and the colour in my room is quite a dark grey (bluey tones). I love it but now I'm having a carpet dilemma. All the carpets I look at seem to be in yellowy tones apart from white white. With a young family, white seems like a really bad idea. I have been advised by foxtons that having different coloured carpets in different rooms is a bad idea aesthetically and so I need a carpet that will go with a grey room but also be practical for the rest of the house. Any ideas?

Keep to the grey theme?

Having similar floor colours does look nice, but can't always be done.

Have a look at Axminster Devonia range, Manor Cream. It's a warm, pale grey which goes with pretty much everything.

If you get a carpet with loads of flecks* of another, deeper colour, it'll go with most colour schemes. We had a quite light cream one in last ehouse while the current house has a deeper base shade, but the same effect.

And it means you have to hoover far less often.

*Not sure the real terms, but it looks like oatmeal/ porridge.
