Painting tiles in a bathroom - does this way madness lie?

Our bathroom currently has attractive peach / cream tiles which we can't afford to replace until next year at the earliest. We're considering painting the tiles white so they're a bit less offensive in the meantime. However, the tiles run along 2 sides of the bath, which has an over-bath shower.

Has anyone painted tiles in a bathroom? Did it work or is the humidity / steam / water spray from the shower likely to cause it to peel off?

I painted over some pale grey mosaic tiles in a flat I owned years ago.
They had a rough sort of finish, not shiny iyswim.

I just used a white bathroom paint and it was fine.

I did sell the flat a year later, so i've no idea how long it lasted.

The tiles were round the bath/shower and it was an internal bathroom (no windows)

I used a white bathroom tile paint.

I'd love to paint ours, but worried as it would be in the shower enclosure too, and so worried about peeling.

Our kitchen tiles have been painted and peel like mad around the sink and back of the cooker.

I painted shower tiles with tile paint. It was beginning to come off a couple of years later when we sold the house.

I should think it would last a year or so, but not for years and years.

That's kind of what I'm starting to think. DH doesn't seem keen to paint them just for a year, but I'll keep working on him. We also have tiles in the kitchen, which were painted by the previous owner, and like ChopstheScarletduck's experience, are starting to peel quite badly aroundthe sink and cooker so I think this is putting him off. Not as much as my preferred bathroom wallpaper though

No! Just wait until you can afford to re do. It won't last and always looks terrible. Peach is very chi chi in interiors now so just live with them

I know . DH complained last night that I had contributed no decorating ideas for the bathroom I did but never mind. This morning he may be wishing that he hadn't inspired me to look for wallpaper.......

Hi, I did this and it has worked really well. I had to put 3-4 coats on as I was painting navy patterned tiles with white tile paint but it honestly looks like we'd had it retiled.

I did it about a year ago and no peeling whatsoever as yet. It's round a bath where we only use the shower bit for rinsing off the kids, but they like to wipe bubbles etc all over the tiles and clean them off again so it's had a reasonable amount of wear.

I regretted it at the time as it took SOOO long and it was quite hard to make sure it was all even and didn't run at all, but it saved a fortune and the bathroom was transformed.

I painted tiles once using tile paint worked like a charm and no problems whatsoever

If it does start to peel is there a way to wash/chip it off? Looking at a house with badly painted tiles atm... the actual tiles are just white so I'm not sure why they did it!
