Does anyone have a TV in their dining room?

We live in a double fronted Edwardian semi. Until now, we have used both front rooms as sitting rooms while my DH's older children lived with us. Now that they have grown up and moved out, we want to make one of the rooms as a dining room and retain the narrow garden room where our table is now as a breakfast room.

I'm unsure as to getting rid of the TV in the future dining room as our younger DCs occasionally watch it in there and will probably do so more often as they get older.

What do you think? Does anyone have a TV in their dining room? it's quite a large room but I don't want the Tv to be a focal point in anyway.

Nope - stereo & piano but no telly

I would take it out. I dont like lots of TVs, we only have one here and I really dont liek them in a dining room.
I would have a huge mirror above the fireplace and a large chandelier as focal points in a dining room.
But of course it's your house, so your call....

Hi - I guess some of it depends on age of kids, space in the rest of house etc - We have a very small flatscreen TV in dining room - we dont use all the time, if there is a 'conflict' re TV programmes etc, ie husband wants to watch cricket whilst others watching something else in sitting room. Its very unobtrusive- we occasionally may have a meal watching something together, sounds very slobby but it isnt.... everything is down to personal taste, we have never had a TV in bedroom for instance, Im really not sure I would want to, but lots of people we know do!

I guess I'll probably take it out. We very rarely go in there to watch TV and I suppose it would look out of place in the dining room.

The reason I originally thought about keeping the TV is that we are keeping a sofa in there. It's a huge room and there'll be plenty of room for table, sofa and various pieces of furniture that are currently in there.

Thanks for your input - always helpful to get other opinions

If you can have separate zones for eg watching tv and eating then it might look fine.
DO you need a dining room? Do you eat in the kitchen? Could you use the room better for other things?

We have two reception rooms and one we use a den/tv room (used at night only and is toy free) and the other is our main sitting room with music, toys, books (but no tv).

I woukd like to have a tv in the dining room. Why not? Sitting down and eating a meal is so much more pleasurable while watching a good show or movie.

ive got one ,its never on though?/
its a small flatscreen and sits on the sideboard in the corner- its not a focal point.
