Velux blinds for a kitchen extension

We have recently built a kitchen extension on the back of our house which faces west so we are getting a LOT of sunshine coming in our skylights at the moment. We have been looking at the blinds available but there seem to be so many different kinds - venetian, roller, pleated! Can anyone give any advice? Our windows are very high so we can only reach them with a pole - sadly we haven't had the budget for electrically operated ones!

We have a high window over our stairs and just have the bod standard blind on it - but with reflective fabric on the back for heat prevention.

We have a pole with a hook to open/shut the window and, it's a bit of a faff, but we can use it on the blind too as the blind has a sort of dip in the metal bit at the bottom that it can clip too.

IIRC we spoke to velux about it and they gave us advice.

Veluxes do give lovely light but can make a room warm. I think they do awnings that go on the outside. try the customer services helpline.
