Is this hideously tacky?

We need to add a focal point to our flat walled lounge in a 50's house. It's either this, or a console table. I quite like this one (will get the tv nit and nest too if we go for it)

Or what else can we do? Walls are a really neutral cream with hint of green. Wallpaper is this

Your help will be greatly appreciated!

I like the wallpaper.

Not keen on the furniture, too chunky for me.
Hate the fire... sorry!

BehindLockNumberNine · 19/05/2012 22:18

I love the wallpaper.

The furniture is too chunky and too dark to go with that beautiful wallpaper.

The fire.... not sure about it...
Again, don't think it suits the wallpaper..

But then most things from Next are not to my taste so what do I know...

PorkyandBess · 19/05/2012 22:20

I am sorry but I hate, hate the furniture and the fireplace.

But Next is generally on the tacky side.

PetiteMum · 19/05/2012 22:25

Hmm....what else would go? We have a house full of oak so a bit bored with it. Was also looking at myakka furniture, but again it's acacia. This is another alternative for the tv cabinet

Love the wallpaper. Don't like the furniture. Would a darker shade of furniture not be better. I'm not keen on lighter coloured furniture.

None of it looks tacky.
I think the furniture is a bit 'heavy' for the wallpaper but I don't think it will rubbish. Maybe something a bit lighter?
The fire would look nice next to the wallpaper but not sure it would go with the furniture.

The wallpaper is delicious.

PetiteMum · 20/05/2012 12:26

Sorry, what do you mean heavy? Too chunky or too dark? Hmmmm...... I am looking further, myakka looks really nice too

I really like the furniture, but not the fire.

MarySA · 20/05/2012 12:29

I will add I don't think it looks tacky. But it does look too chunky in that colour of wood. But I agree go with what you like and what suits you and your family.

LemonTurd · 20/05/2012 12:33

Most MNers seem to be quite snobby about Next Home, I'm not sure you'll get a balanced view.

TheMonster · 20/05/2012 15:32

What's wrong with Next Home? I love looking in there, but can't afford to buy.

vonnyh · 20/05/2012 17:06

Nothing wrong at all with Next home. Just seems to be fashionable to knock it on here.

PetiteMum · 20/05/2012 17:22

Ok, so here's the deal. I've decided console table is the way to go as it will give extra storage. Just need to find one now! I had no idea Next was hated on here. It's actually pretty nice, solid wood! And a decent price

I don't hate Next furniture, I have a living room full of it Smile

Iwannamovenow · 20/05/2012 17:53

I'll admit to having some mirrored drawers from next in my bedroom.

Does that mean nobody will talk to me on here now?

TheMonster · 20/05/2012 18:27

I will. I think Next stuff is lovely Smile
