wallpaper stripped, now what about the gluey mess?

I used a steamer to remove fairly new wallpaper and it came off pretty easily. Now I'm left with a wet sticky mess of glue. I'm currently wiping it all off with a damp cloth but DD may have grown out of the pastel paints she's chosen by the time I'm done!
Any ideas for cleaning wallpaper paste off a wall? Would soap or spirits help?

Wash with loads of hot water. Change water Repeat x 1000000000000 times. Then a few more times.
Or get a man in?!
Just did option 2 and it was worth it.
But am still on option 1 with another room.

Warm water (I use a garden sprayer) and a broad metal scraper. Scrape the slime off and wipe it on your sleeve a piece of kitchen roll. Repeat.

I can't see a wet rag doing much good, just smears it around.

I was about to say sugar soap. And a lot of scrubbing.

Lots of sugar soap and scrubbing and the goo is gone. I looked like DD had sneezed blue snot all over me. Now for the paint...
