White ceilings

White woodwork

Put skylights in everywhere you can (esp above the stairs if possible)

Put mirrors opposite or at 90 degrees to a window so they reflect the light

Pale colours on walls

Pale furniture, rugs, curtains etc

Any other reflective surfaces if possible - eg if you have a wooden floor, keep it polished (amazing how much light this reflects).

Avoid clutter. Be ruthless.
