Are my doors weird? Advice please, help the DIY distressed.

I want to buy an internal door on the ebays, it is listed as being 78 x 30 inches. I have looked on Wickes and the like and this seems to be a fairly standard size.

So I measure my doors and they are a few mm short of this on both width and length. So the width is 29.7 inches, not 30, the height is 77.2.

Is this normal - do you round up? It's not an old house (60s/70s), no period sizings, so I don't think they should be unusual sizes. Should I be measuring something else - the door frame?

You round up so you plane the door down to fit. Check if it is a veneer how thick it is to make sure there is enough to plane.

The door isn't always the exact size.
Depending the material of the door either veneer (check veneer thickness)
or wood then they would be shaved to fit and hung, most veneer doors will say how much can be shaven off each side

the size differences you mention are trivial. In an old house multiple coats of paint or a bit of warpage or settlement putting the frame out of shape will be greater.

If it needs a lot of trimming, a good joiner will cut off the veneered edge first so that it can be stuck back on after trimming the door.

Have a look at the gap between door and frame. A good joiner will like to leave an even gap all round that a 2p piece will fit into.

Ah but I don't have a good joiner pigletjohn . I do have helpful family members who will go at it with a hammer and a bowsaw .
