Help, bathroom nightmare

I could do with a few opinions please. We've got a builder starting in a week's time and really need to finalise what we want in our bathroom.

We like these dark cupboards here but can't decide on a worktop.

I'm not convinced by the light one they've got on it but would a dark one look a bit weird? The worktops are here on pages 64 and 65. The bathroom in my first link has got the Arkosa laminate which looks darker on the page than it does on the furniture but we want a solid worktop. We've seen one cupboard with the Copper in real life which looked OK at the time but now I can't really remember how it looked and we think the Jurassic might look too bitty ? aaarrrgghhh. We've been going round and round in circles [stressed emoticon].

I prefer the lighter/white worktop. It's a nice clean contrast to the darker wood.
Darker surfaces might show up water stains. What is the name of the lighter one you might go for?

I like the dark light contrast and the solid work tops are lovely. (Biased as I work for Roper Rhodes!)

Oo, really Universals. So many questions, so little time. (Resists urge to shackle her to her computer for the rest of the week day.)

So, if people have Aruba Mali, what worktops do they usually go for? In an ideal world we like Copper or Galactic but worry it would all be too dark. Do you know what Jurassic looks like in a big run? We've only seen the little sample block in a shop, or would Glacier look OK?

Interesting that you both think a light worktop would like nice, I'm hopeless at this stuff!

Having looked at the samples again, I still think that Copper or Galactic would be too dark and oppressive.

Imo, it would be a toss up between Jurassic or Glacier. It's difficult not seeing the samples but I would probably opt for Jurassic (I prefer warmer tones). It's tricky really, isn't it. They're both nice.

Let us know what you decide.

Can't advise you very well as I'm only just back from mat leave (worried outing self!) and the Copper work top finish and the Mali unit have been introduced while I've been away. You could try ringing sales office, I think a lady called Lois there still specialises in the fitted furniture and see if she can advise. As Mali was introduced at the start of this year they won't have masses of sales data for what's popular with it; they will be selling in for display at retailers for a couple of months before end consumer sales start to take off. I personally think Glacier might work nicely or Galactic Black. Only personal opinion though! Galactic black is used in the Aruba dark walnut photography so you can see what it looks like with a dark wood. Haven't seen Jurassic or Copper in the flesh to be able to tell. Worth speaking to someone in the sales office to find out delivery lead times too.

Thanks so much for taking the time to reply. It's really hard to make a decision as noone seems to have much of it on display. We found one place that had one Mali sink unit with the Copper top but hard to imagine what it would be like for the whole bathroom and then we found another place that had a run of Bali cupboards with a Hi-Mac top so might be worth mentioning to someone relevant to push to get more showrooms to have it on display. (We're south east London/Kent borders but the displays we found were in Essex.)

I'll definitely ring the sales office tomorrow, we have a couple of questions anyway so I'll see if I can track down Lois ? thanks for the tip.

At the moment, I think we'll order all the units and sanitary ware, as that's what the builder needs to get going so that he knows where the plumbing and electrics need to go, and take a bit longer to think about the worktops.

Thanks again for your help.

Don't know if you're still here but we found a place that had some of the things we were looking at on display so having thought about it we went for Dark Walnut cupboard with the Galactic black worktop!

I rang Roper Rhodes and coincidentally it was Lois that answered the phone! She was very helpful and answered my many questions. She seemed to think that most people are going for the Glacier with the Mali doors but something was holding us back from that so we went with the safer option.

Thanks again for all your help and opinions.
