So after much discussion we are having walnut flooring put down in most of downstairs.

What I would like to know is the general maintenance/cleaning care we will need to do

Also would like to steer away from any comments that its unsuitable flooring when you have DCs and a dog {wink}

Thank you wise MNetters

Ooh can I ask where you are getting it from? I'm after some and have found a company in london who seem to do a nice one at a good price, but I'm in the NE. Am also torn between solid wood and the engineered.

To try and answer your question, the only wooden floor I have had before was oak, so if there is something special you have to do to walnut I'm not much use!

But I just used to mop the floor with a well wrung out mop, and used a dituable wooden floor cleaner available everywhere. In theory, every 6 months/once a year I also waxed it, but erm I never did in the 4 years I was there. We have dogs and a small child too, so are well versed on mess and destruction. Grin

We got ours from eBay Blush it was taken up from a posh house in London and sold by the architect for a quick buck. Seems to be good quality and whilst the reverse date stamp says its 5 years old it looks lovely still.

Glad that my general cleaning will still be Of an acceptable level! Wink

I've been won over by all the reviews of bamboo flooring...

alp · 06/05/2012 21:16

I looked at bamboo but it didn't win me over as much as the reviews were fabulous!

We currently have oak engineered floor and I've been really disappointed with it's durability in terms of denting and scratching so it's bamboo this time around!

This polish (not the cleaner) brings our walnut floor up a treat. It makes it gleam and the grain shines through.

BeeBread! That's great thanks!

Do you use a specific cleaner too?

Feel a trip to Lakeland coming on Grin

I use the Method wooden floor cleaner with an emop. It smells divine - almondy.

Ohhh that sounds good - DH used some
Method spray and mop which brought it up lovely.

And emop, sounds interesting ....

I love my bamboo flooring and it is fine with DC and dog and cats. I use the wonderful e-mop and will now have to go and look for the method spray.
