can you paint coloured woodstain over primed wood?

I primed my children's picnic bench and now want to paint over it. I accidentally bought Sadolin's purple woodstain. when I came home it says that I can paint it on untreated or bare wood...

Can I still paint over it? What would happen if I painted over it?
Or should I buy exterior eggshell paint?

If the woodstain is "opaque" then it will be like a paint. I think Sadolin Superdec is the one but that does say it can go on previously painted surfaces.

If it's a translucent woodstain it will look awful over the primer. I should take it back and get exterior paint.
