Ikea Kitchen Adel

Jacaqueen · 29/04/2012 09:44

I am looking to put in a new kitchen in a holiday home and have always liked the Adel. I was thinking the off white with beech worktop, slate floor.

The house has a New England, coastal vibe.

It is a small U shape kitchen so I was going to go for integrated dishwasher and fridge freezer to keep it uniform. Anyone have any Ikea appliances?

However I also like the Lidingo and the Stat kitchen. Any opinions on these kitchens?

I am also rather confused by the choice of handles. If you have any of these kitchens what handles did you go for?

I like the look of the 3 drawer base units instead of cupboards. Would it be better to have two 80cm or three 60cm units?

I need one of those 90cm corner units. Are the ikea carousels any good or would I be better with a shelf?

Sorry for all the questions, but DH couldn't care less and has left all the decisions upto me.

Oh also do Ikea deliver kichens and how long do you have to wait?

Thanks

hi
we have adel in white in our summer house. it is also a smallish kitchen, but L shape, IIRC long side of L is about 3.20m and short arm is 1.80m.
we have integrated ikea fridge (highest/biggest one we could find), ikea dishwasher, ikea oven/hob. cannot say anything about long term as we have only had it for about a year, but in that year it has been wonderful. we had ours delivered and built in by our builders (who were absolutely wonderful!).

the oven is particularly good. it is a whirlpool i think.

we have carousels both in the bench units and the wall hung units and they are a bit of a pain: the doors won't shut if the carousel is the wrong way around, and if something gets pushed off at the back it is difficult to retrieve.

wrt your drawer unit question. my personal guess would be that 3x 60 would be better than 2 x 80 (mind you it is also 20cms bigger!!!).
we have wooden tops, and i hope that this will last.... bit worried about that one.

i think we have the lansa handles as well
wonder why everyone else also picks that one???

we are now looking to re-do the kitchen in our house, so will follwo this thread with interest.
good luck with your design!

Delivery is within 24 hours if you go in store and order it all and take it all (I know!) to the Organise Your Home Delivery Here desk. But it's the quickest way to do it unless you have access to a van. Is Stat the matt white?

DaisySteiner · 30/04/2012 06:54

I've had Adel for 2 1/2 years - no chips at all so far.

Pannacotta · 30/04/2012 09:35

I'd go for the two larger sets of pan drawers, more useful imo and nicer symmetry.

Jacaqueen · 30/04/2012 12:02

Thankyou all.

The person who is going to fit it came out to have a look yesterday.

He has suuggested putting a 90cm corner unit in each corner. If I dont want carousels I can have shelves. In the middle of this on the short wall will be the cooker. I already have that in place.

Window side will be sink, integrated dishwasher then washing machine. Other side will be 2 drawer units and integrated fridge freezer. Unless I can persuade DH to buy a Smeg or maybe Gorenge.

Going to have wall units on the short wall only and maybe the Varde shelf on the wall opposite the window.

I haven't made the final decision re the doors and handles. Another trip to Ikea is needed I think. I am ridiculously excited by all the drawer dividers and inserts you can have.

They are doing buy 2 get 1 free on units at the moment so I am trying to persuade DH that we should buy it ourselves this week and store in the garage until electrics and flooring have been done.

2 for 1 units
What! Where?

Kveta · 01/05/2012 21:50

We have a lidingo, it's lovely. Will post more tomorrow :)

leeloo1 · 02/05/2012 16:42

When I was in Ikea at the weekend they were advertising 3 for 2 on cupboards and £100 on a giftcard for each £1000 you spent on kitchens. :)

Kveta · 02/05/2012 19:39

ok, so back to type more.

we went for lidingo, as they were out of Adel and Stat when we ordered (not an uncommon problem apparently), and got Varde handle, with an oak worktop - we only have a tiny kitchen, and it seems to work for us!

I did look at all of the options in store, and they seemed much of a muchness. However, 3 friends got IKEA kitchens the same month as us, and all got Adel, and all got wooden worktops with black slate effect flooring (which we have too) so we were glad to have a marginally less common one in the end!!

I adore my kitchen anyway, it is gorgeous, and does not look nearly as cheap as it was.

we have the ikea hob and oven (and extractor fan), and they are the best we've ever had - we got a BEKO fridge freezer due to size constraints (it's the thinnest/tallest on the market). Wish we'd got the dishwasher too. We didn't bother with the integrated washing machine, as I wanted a washer drier and found a much better one in a local electrical shop.

we got the £100 for every £1000 spent too, it was brilliant :o

PetiteMum · 02/05/2012 20:49

I have the idea ramsjo white with oak worktop and oak floor. I'm not keen on the shiny white look, so went for this. It's a wood door, stained birch apparently. It looks gorgeous and a bit different to the vinyil or melamine ones. We did the 100 voucher thingy too and got bookshelves for the spare room which was great! Also got all appliances except washer from there and are v v happy with them. I say go for it. Cheapest kitchen we saw and is holding up well with toddler abuse!

PetiteMum · 02/05/2012 20:50

Meant ikea obviously. Silly iPad!

Can't comment on the Adel (we had the black abstrakt gloss in our last house) but I wouldn't recommend the abstrakt gloss for a rental - the finish is easily scratched if you use anything other than a soft cloth to clean it (thats the voice of experience!). We also had the Ikea built in under-counter larder fridge (very good) and the built in slimline dishwasher (also great).

Also wouldn't have carousels - we didn't have them in our last kitchen, have them now (not an Ikea kitchen) and I hate them with a passion - just awkward, not easy to manoeuvre etc.

Jacaqueen · 03/05/2012 09:36

All of this is so useful. Thankyou.

I love the Ramsjo too, but thought the Adel would be more robust. I am leaning towards the Varde handles.

Unfortunately DH cant get time off work this week so we are going on Friday night. Date night in Ikea!

I am going to use the gift vouchers to buy shelves and inserts for the drawers. Maybe get some new glasses, knives etc.

Have you all gone for tiles or splashback panels? What are those Ikea double sided panels like? My preference is just to have an upstand the same as the worktop, but I don't think Ikea do this.

OP posts:
Kveta · 03/05/2012 18:22

we got the panels from IKEA - the ones with green/grey flowers on a cream background. I think they make the kitchen less dull, as I was sick of white tiles in all our rental places! We (well, DH) painted 2 walls of the kitchen in a nice grren that goes with the green on the panels.

biggest issue was the fecking builder who put them up though - he was so lazy, he didn't take the plastic backing off, then they all started falling off the walls. DH has put them up properly now though, as we didn't want the workshy bastard builder back in the house after that discovery!!

think i have posted a pic of it to my profile if you'd like to see the finished effect - not the best photo ever, but gives you an idea

jamaisjedors · 04/05/2012 16:13

Interesting thread because we are just back from Ikea and hesitating between Lindingo, Adel white and Ramsjo white.

The Ramsjo white I think was our favourite but the display one was quite marked and when I ran my pen lid over it naughty it left an indent.

DH loves the upper cabinets for the Lindingo (glass) because we saw them on display all lit up. We couldn't see the Adel glass ones properly because they weren't included in the Adel display kitchen. The Ramsjo upper look fine but a little dull - I am thinking that some nice wall paper at the back of the cabinet (inside) could make it look a bit different.

Jacaqueen · 05/05/2012 10:37

Well we went to Ikea last night and ordered the Adel with the real birch worktop. It is being delivered on Monday.

I did like the Ramsjo but felt that the grain of the wood came through too much for the look I was after, especially as I really wanted the real wood worktop. To me it looked like it could have done with another coat of paint. Infact we almost bought it because you would be able to repaint it in the future.

We are not having any glass cupboards but I agree that the Lindingo does look lovely when lit.

I couldn't believe how easy it all was. The assistant was really knowledgeable and was able to advise us about plinths and side panels etc.

Wow you are super efficient. We have been thinking about this kitchen for a year now and I am almost sick of it...

Jacaqueen · 05/05/2012 11:05

Ha Ha at being super efficient!

We bought the house over two years ago and have been debating for ages whether to revamp the kitchen or get a new one.

I have spent days on the Ikea planner, picking doors, worktops and handles.

I was getting really sick of it all too so just snapped and thought right this is getting ridiculous fgs just make a decision and buy the bloody thing. It's only a kitchen!

It won't be getting fitted for a few weeks as we still have some electrical work and tiling to get done.

That's reassuring!!
