Moving a wall between rooms by a few feet, cost ?

We're still hunting for a house after selling ours last month (We move out 8 weeks today ! ) Since we sold there has been hardly any 3 bed houses on the market. We did look at one but felt the 3rd bedroom was too small, it was only 6 foot across although it was 8 foot long, so we didn't offer on it. It sold after a few weeks on the market.

I was speaking to a friend a few weeks ago and mentioned it. She asked me why I didn't just move the wall between the 1st and 3rd bedroom to make the 3rd bedroom wider. I had never thought about doing that. It would have made the 1st bedroom 9 foot instead of 11 foot wide but would have made the 3rd bedroom 8 foot wide so a decent size. Gutted I hadn't thought about doing that.

Anyone have any idea roughly how much it would cost to take out a wall and move it 2 foot ? So I know incase another one that size comes on the market.

Thanks.

Is it a load bearing wall though?

Or just a stud wall?

We have done this. Cost around £1500 (for stud wall) including materials. You will also need to budget for redecoration of two rooms and for new carpets.

Pretty sure it was just a stud wall. Still hoping one of the bigger 3 bed houses come on the market in the meantime, but want to keep all options open.

Thanks bradbourne. We'd be decorating anyway as we're hoping this will be our final move so any house we get will probably be getting fully redecorated etc. So we won't need to do anything for a few years.

Starting to get a bit worried that we'll not find anything soon. Why is it that there is loads of houses on the market just before and while your house is on tha market but the minute you sell nothing goes on ? !
