Trouble finding house to rent

Hi
I've come to mums net as I've completely run out of options and ideas!
We are moving soon (about to exchange contracts next week) and the plan was we'd rent for 6 months whilst looking for a place to buy as there isn't much stock in the area we are moving to at the moment.
However, I didn't bank on the fact that no landlord/estate agent is willing to accept a dog!
I've tried finding a private landlord on the net but no joy.
Has anyone tried renting with a dog and if so how did you manage it? We don't have anyone to look after the dog in the meantime so that isn't an option. Ideally I'd like to rent direct from the landlord and bypass the EA but I'm struggling to find any
Any advice/suggestions gratefully received Thanks

Have you tried spareroom.co.uk? Mostly rooms to rent but also whole properties.

Or take out an ad in the property section of the local paper - include a picture of the dog!

Really sorry for your difficulty. I am a landlord (and a dog owner). I do let people with dogs rent but I have to say that 7 times out of 10 it has caused me trouble (complaints from neighbours, sh*t left in the garden, damage) so unfortunately it is the irresponsible dog owners that let everyone else down.

Good luck.

I'm not sure as ive tried so many! Will check them out now, thank you. I just wish I'd known it would be an issue before we'd got this far down the line but i had no idea.

No joy there unfortunately. I've rung around all the estate agents and registered with the extra incentive of 6months rent in advance and two months deposit.

What area are you looking in?

neenewps · 25/04/2012 19:16

Gumtree?
Again where are you?

We've always rented with a dog (or dogs), and yes it is a pain in the arse! However, if you speak to agents or landlords, put forwards your positives first, and act like you will assume they will accept the pet by saying 'of course we will pay an extra £200 deposit because we have a dog'. Usually works Wink

Hi
I'm looking in paddock wood near tonbridge. Have tried gum tree but no joy there either. I rang round all the agents yesterday and left my details explaining I would pay extra deposit/6 months upfront etc but the problem is, there is hardly any rental stock available so when something does come up, they have a choice of tenants to choose from.
I might have to widen my search to include the towns nearby.

Yes, I always say I have a small mongrel. Not two monster staff crosses.
