Help me buy a king size bed

We are moving house soon and for the first time ever we will have a big enough bedroom for a king size bed. I haven't bought a grown up bed in years and there seems so much choice now.
What should I be looking for or has anyone bought a bed recently that they would recommend?

Get a good mattress not necessarily from same people you buy the bed from.
We have a lovely king size bed from Barker & Stonehouse - very solid after DH broke the last one when having a nightmareBlush,
We bought the mattress from a great independent mattress shop that unfortunately has now closed ( they retired) but they spent time matching it to our needs (me petite and dainty, DH not so much)

We have just bought this

And it is fantastic. So comfortable and so beautiful to look at too.

We bought it in a sale though so didn't pay anywhere near full price.

Ours is almost like this one - www.barkerandstonehouse.co.uk/mobile/detailsizes.php?ProdID=66457&RangeID=2076 but as we bought it 6yrs ago they don't do the exact one any more (DH hasn't broken this one Grin)

Was thinking to spend most on the mattress but not sure what I should be looking for.

I suppose one starting point is to decide on the 'feel' you want your bedroom to have, then start from there.

Ie Victorian/romatic/pretty/shabby chic/contemporary/oriental - although there's nothing wrong with mixing up styles as well to avoid matchyness.

If you want wood, one source of solid wood (as opposed to the wood finish that even expensive beds seem to be made of theses days, the Natural Bed Company makes solid wood beds.
Their style is very much contemporary/Oriental, but obviously can be mixed in to suit with your own style.

For me the starting point would be comfort which I'd put way before style. You spend a huge amount of time in bed and the quality of the mattress (and base if you are having one) is the most important thing of all.

Go and lie on some mattresses and see what feels best for both of you.

PS ours is a Sealy Owain and its lovely

We got a bed from Warren Evans (fab service) and also a tempur mattress from them (heavenly). Warren Evans also came up cheapest for tempur mattresses when we were looking.
