New boiler how much?

We fear our boiler is on its last legs. It makes very strange noises and needs resetting frequently. It also seems very inefficient (high bills)

How much does a new boiler cost incl installation? Where is best to go? a smll independent or someone like B Gas?

You can rely on British Gas being the most expensive.

I'd suggest looking at the website of some good manufacturers to see their list of Approved Installers that are local. Obviously the person who does the work must be Gas-safe registered and should you you his photobadge without being asked. If he says he's left it and home, or in the van, smile sweetly and say you'll wait while he fetches it.

If your system is an old, open-vented one, it will almost certainly need a powerflush (this is about a day's work to do properly) to remove all the old corrosion and sediment from the radiators and pipes. Boiler guarantees do not cover blockages or damage caused by sediment.
