Has anyone ever bought/had made some map wallpaper at all?! Dp is map obsessed loves maps and we're thinking about re-painting a room and have one large blank wall at the moment and it occured to me we could cover it with maps or get some map wallpaper.

I've googled and it looks outrageously expensive so before we think about going ahead, with very little resource, I thought I'd see if anyone's got any recommendations.

Thank you Smile

Have you looked at Surface View?

LittlePandaBear · 11/04/2012 17:02

How about this mural?
Dwell

Thanks both! The surface View stuff looks amazing but the dwell mural is more my price range!

Thanks again - will do some measuring and have a think...

Ikea do a large/massive wall map. It's in amongst their prints and frames section.

Or, go on eBay and buy some old maps (or os maps), use wallpaper paste to stick them up in the wall and voila! Bil did this with old comic books in dn room. Looks great!

The only trouble with joining maps together is that you end up with things butting against each other which should not. Distortion and wrongness.

I recently bought a PVC covered fabric tablecover from John Lewis and I can't put it on my table because it is incorrect because of the invisible join of world map to world map. I don't want my children confused. Grin

How about having an enormous world map in the centre. And then various city of country maps surrounding it, with arrows pointing to its position on the world map. Or a map surrounded by loads of printed flags with arrows.

Hmm... Not sure really! The thing is, I like plain, clean, no patterned stuff - so I would ideally just paint it a pale colour to match the new kitchen tiles we've just bought (it's all their fault..!). So the map wall needs (for my sanity) to be as simple ad possible. So sticking bits of maps up definitely isn't going to happen! Grin

I think the compromise is one big map picture and any of the background wall to be white...

That's a really cool idea - I like that. Bookmarking this for future inspiration! Grin

could you project a map outline onto the wall and paint it, like this ?

Tortington · 14/04/2012 22:57

I think a super cool way to go would be buying a huge map and paying to have it framed in a huge frame

can i also state that waterstones to map wrapping paper - i even considered buying it to frame it myself.

but i do thnk a huge map - professionally framed - will be pricey - not as pricey as reall up your arse art though and it will WOW

Tortington · 14/04/2012 22:57

also must add i've seen framed maps for sale in posh shops - i think its a style thing at the mo

southeastastra · 14/04/2012 22:58

print out a4 bits of google maps at a time, would probably be quite cheap Grin

We've got Atlas wallpaper

Worked brilliantly and really good value.

DaisySteiner · 14/04/2012 23:02

BTW, we painted the wall behind it white and it looks great.
