What should I be doing today?

Clearing any clutter, give it a good clean, get some fresh flowers, tidy up garden.

lumpsdumps · 09/04/2012 13:19

It's raining heavily here so can't do the garden. Haven't got money for fresh flowers today, any other ideas? Sorry for raining on your ideas, thank you though

Do you have any scented candles? I would also open up the windows for a while to air the rooms ( if you can bear the chill). Walk through the house as if you were a potential buyer and rehearse what you are going to tell people about each room.

IAmRubyLennox · 09/04/2012 13:25

clean 'show' towels in the bathroom(s)

avoid cooking anything strong-smelling

obviously everything nice and clean and tidy

give your front door a wipe over.

You're so lucky, wish we had a viewing Sad

Do have scented candles so burning them today. I have some really nice fake flowers that can be in a vase that I always have fresh flowers in. Will open up the windows for the day and will do the same tomorrow morning. It's an assisted viewing so have the estate agent doing the walk around. Only thing I'm really worried about is our rather noisy dog who always barks when there is somebody strange in the house

We've had a reasonable amount of viewings since December but no proper offers.

IAmRubyLennox · 09/04/2012 13:30

any chance someone can take your dog out round the block while the viewers are there?

Bunbaker · 09/04/2012 13:32

As a viewer I would be very suspicious of obvious scents like scented candles as I would wonder what smell they were masking.

Polish your taps
Open your curtains as wide as they will go to let plenty of light in
If it is a dull day put the lights on
Make sure your toilet(s) are spotlessly clean
Get someone to take the dog for a walk as that will be really off putting, especially if the viewer doesn't like dogs. I like dogs, but would find it too intrusive.
Make sure the house is aired to get rid of doggy smells

Roseformeplease · 09/04/2012 13:40

I would be very worried about the dog and, given a choice, would prefer to buy a dog free house. Make coffee, bake bread and make sure the place does not smell of dog or of people. Good luck

lumpsdumps · 09/04/2012 13:55

To be fair the dog doesn't smell, I bath him regularly and we have no carpets except for upstairs on the landing so the house doesn't smell of dog. I have asked my friends who do not have dogs to tell me. All the windows are open today so the house will be aired nicely and will be the same before the viewing tomorrow and Wednesday

Sorry to say this but I think every dog owner thinks there dog doesn't smell and the house doesn't smell but more often than not there is always a smell of dog in the house.

Will the dog bark if it is outside?

I hope your viewing goes well.

RandomMess · 09/04/2012 14:12

yes take the dog out for a walk, or any friends where he can go for an hour?

bibbitybobbitybunny · 09/04/2012 14:17

Get absolutely everything you can off the floor (waste paper baskets, laundry bins, shoes, boxes) - show every spare inch of floor space that you possibly can, especially in the corners, it makes rooms look bigger.

drcrab · 09/04/2012 14:19

If it's an assisted viewing then you don't need to be around. You can take your dog out. I know children aren't the same but when we sold our house they were all assisted viewings - we tidied the toys away and removed the children.

lumpsdumps · 09/04/2012 14:37

Have organised for the dog to go to my friends house for an hour. Gutted that the weather is so bad as the house really comes to life when the sun shines as we have a lot of windows. Thanks for all the advice
