Ideas for lighting in big, white kitchen diner (Victorian house)

I have had a general look but I have not found anything remotely exciting so I must be looking in the wrong place. I like the whole 60s pendant look and Danish Modern but my house is obv the wrong age.

I HATE the Ikea/Argos squiggly bit of metal with a few halogen bulbs along it.
I don't want something that is faithful to the victorian era, rather something in keeping with the whole bare floorboards, light walls look. I once imagined that it was possible to buy big rectangular track systems - understated space age but maybe not..
Has to be easy to clean too

We have just done a big kitchen diner in a Victorian farmhouse. White walls, wooden floor. We had a halogen track and wire system lighting put in. It looked fab, all very art gallery and great light but it was a disaster. We wanted the 35w lights as the Ikea ones at 20w don't give out enough light but the three light fittings were faulty and ended up with burnt fittings. The next price range up for track and wire was £££££. And that was the problem with all the great track lighting it is very expensive as it's mostly commercial but you can get it- with all manner of spotlights and pendants to go on it. Ikea do one but I think it looks a bit cheap.

So in the end we went for a 5 arm mod/trad chandelier hanging above the table, a big glass BTC pendant above the island in the kitchen and a couple of nice tracks to supplement the kitcehn lighting. It looks pretty good.
