Exchange date moan

We had a moving date for 7 April and was all geared up as am finishing work on 5 April, moving and then baby due at end of April.

Selllers have just come back and said there are problems with their mortgage so they need to delay and end of April, start of May is looking more likely... just as I'm going into labour... Angry

Have responded asking them to try and sort it out before end of April but they're saying 10 MAy more likely when am likely to have a very tiny baby.

Just very annoying, apart from anything else it now means i have 3 weeks pre-baby kicking my heels in old place when I should have been nesting in new place.

Did they know why the origional date? Have you asked for money off the purchase price towards the help you will need as a ready to drop just given birth Mum? they should be jumping through hoops for their buyer in these financial times!

If it really is their mortgage then there may not be anything they can do about it. And I would be asking for information, in writing, through solicitors, as to exactly what the problem with the mortgage is. Like, are they having trouble actually getting one, and might they find they can't get one?

And then I'd work out what it will cost to get the extra help with your move that you'll now need. Packing service, and some nanny hours, and a service clean of your new home before your move in, for example. Make a big list and present it to them.

"We had a moving date for 7 April "

Have you exchanged contracts?

Stokey · 27/03/2012 17:24

No Piglet - we hadn't exchanged - it was just the date we were all working towards. We have first time buyers who are renting so was all good our side, and the sellers who are moving to ireland first said start of April (and then 7), which obviously worked well for us with the baby.

We were always a bit unsure whether that date would actually work given problems of moving money over easter, but thought it would just before or just after.

I think the problems with the mortgage are just due to the mortgage company not having the right paperwork from them. We're paying them a lot and they're moving to a much cheaper area so shouldn't have thought funds would be an issue.

I really sympathise, especially given that you're pregnant. But this happens all the time, to everyone. Its happened to us loads - we neded up living with my ILs for a couple of months whilst things were being finalised with our sellers. It is incredibly annoying, but if you still want to buy the house, there is very little you can do except try and price chip. Which may not work anyway.
