Painted kitchen - colour advice?

We have (hopefully!) found an affordable, made-to-measure painted kitchen.

Need to have a think about colours and would be really grateful on any colour thoughts people have.

Part of me would be happy to play safe with a paler/neutral colour but part of me wonders about something a bit brighter!

I spotted this kitchen www.martinmoore.com/page/108/Buckinghamshire-Cottage.htm and really like the bright blue island. I actually spotted it in a magazine and they listed the blue as Farrow and Ball's Cook's Blue.

Can anyone guess at what the paler units are? Farrow and Ball list Cook's Blue in colour schemes with Lime White/Strong White and also Borrowed Light/Blackened - don't know if anyone has any thoughts about how they might work on kitchen units? (like the kitchen in the picture, we would probably just have a 'feature' unit).

Or if anyone else has colour suggestions they would be very welcome - they don't have to include a bright/feature colour option and they don't have to be Farrow and Ball.

Just spotted that Plain English have a bright red island in this kitchen www.plainenglishdesign.co.uk/yorkshire-1 which I like but do prefer the blue.

Thank you!

I'm liking olive green in kitchens at the moment.... just painted the wall on the diner side of our kitchen-diner Overtly Olive by Dulux.... <a class="break-all" href="http://www.google.co.uk/imgres?q=overtly+olive&hl=en&sa=X&biw=1280&bih=711&tbm=isch&prmd=imvns&tbnid=hLLf9kV9HTECCM:&imgrefurl=www.housetohome.co.uk/room-idea/picture/unleash-your-colour-confidence-with-dulux/5&docid=4l4Ij77As_rm6M&imgurl=housetohome.media.ipcdigital.co.uk/96%25257C00000e950%25257C22b5_orh550w550_Overtly-Olive--Natural-Hessian-kitchen.jpg&w=550&h=550&ei=d2lsT8uxOIi30QWOtcTDBg&zoom=1&iact=hc&vpx=679&vpy=149&dur=29&hovh=224&hovw=224&tx=134&ty=90&sig=111619966211778112659&page=1&tbnh=163&tbnw=162&start=0&ndsp=18&ved=1t:429" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">www.google.co.uk/imgres?q=overtly+olive&hl=en&sa=X&biw=1280&bih=711&tbm=isch&prmd=imvns&tbnid=hLLf9kV9HTECCM:&imgrefurl=www.housetohome.co.uk/room-idea/picture/unleash-your-colour-confidence-with-dulux/5&docid=4l4Ij77As_rm6M&imgurl=housetohome.media.ipcdigital.co.uk/96%25257C00000e950%25257C22b5_orh550w550_Overtly-Olive--Natural-Hessian-kitchen.jpg&w=550&h=550&ei=d2lsT8uxOIi30QWOtcTDBg&zoom=1&iact=hc&vpx=679&vpy=149&dur=29&hovh=224&hovw=224&tx=134&ty=90&sig=111619966211778112659&page=1&tbnh=163&tbnw=162&start=0&ndsp=18&ved=1t:429,r:3,s:0

I can imagine it would look really good on an island....

Sorry for the long linky

Above is a link to our painted kitchen. Bottom units F & B Bone and top Pointing.

If I was doing it again now, I would do mid grey bottom units but I am in a grey phase generally!

That's like my new kitchen petite. It looks lovely!

We have Elephants Breath by Farrow and Ball. It's like a putty colour - not cream but still neutral. It's stunning.

hobnob · 23/03/2012 19:02

We have Farrow & Ball French Grey. It looks like this:

www.benchmarxjoinery.co.uk/?pageId=8&hierarchy=Kitchens&category=13&subCategory=3&products=true

So it's greeny rather than bluey, but I do like the blue in your original link, Teds77.

Ours is also painted in Bone by Farrow & Ball (we're a predictable lot on MN!). The kitchen was installed 10 years ago and I've never got tired of the colour, or had any huge desire to repaint it a brighter shade. We only have base units though, no wall cupboards. I do really like the idea of an island unit painted a more vibrant colour though. Our kitchen is very neutral but we do have colour in the blinds and sofa cushions.

bistokids · 24/03/2012 07:50

Our island is oak so it contrasts with the Elephants Breath. I'd have liked sort of deep red but thought we'd get tired of it.

justaweeone · 24/03/2012 13:29

Our is farrow and ball hard wick white
Also have a bright red Welsh dresser to jazz up the room

Teds, I think the paler colour in your op might be blackened.
